Copernicus is Europe’s flagship programme for the provision of earth observation for environmental and emergency services, managed for the EU by the European Space Agency (ESA).
This programme has been a pioneer in the development of the virtual earth observation constellation concept, providing augmentation of the non-commercial Sentinel satellite missions by commercial optical and radar missions, necessary to provide enhanced observational diversity (e.g. radar as well as optical) and sampling. Earlier in the programme, Geocento engaged with ESA to make recommendations in relation to management of these commercial missions, using its experience in virtual constellation design and management.
Now, Geocento is involved again, but this time in engaging with users of the services, as well as ESA and prime contractor Serco, to make recommendations in relation to evolution of the service in response to feedback and industry developments.
